THE MASTERMIND BEHIND THE VIBE

MEET SHELBY ANDERSON

The daughter of a hairstylist, Shelby Anderson grew up in the beauty industry. “I remember having friends over and cutting their hair in my bathtub,” says Anderson. “I was in eighth grade.”

“Most high school beauty programs do not accept students until they are 16, but I was…persistent,” she adds with a laugh. “I was enrolled a year early, and I haven’t looked back.”

Her persistence and passion continue to pay off. After her first class, she sought out training with some of the industry’s best, enrolling in the renowned celebrity salon, NINE ZERO ONE in West Hollywood, California. She is a certified Beauty Coach, training directly with Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee, the masterminds behind the manes of Julianne Hough, Jennifer Lawrence, and Blake Lively.

She also has taken classes with Justin Anderson (responsible for Jennifer Aniston and Kristin Cavallari’s color) and Tracey Cunningham (who has the Kardashians as color clients).

A master stylist, Shelby is an expert in balayage, natural sun-kissed coloring, long-layered dry-hair shaping, and naturally-blended hair extensions through a specific process of applying, coloring, and cutting.

Shelby Anderson has had her fair share of industry recognition. Most recently, she was just named DC’s Best Of 2022 with DC Magazine. She is a Bellami Hair Ambassador, internationally known for hair extensions. She has gained a known platform with Wella Professionals hair color, as she won the TrendVision People’s Choice award in New York City (2017) for her hair coloring. And in 2018 she was accepted as a member of the Wella Passionistas — a new program of top stylists and creatives from across the globe. In 2014, she was one of ten selected nationwide for a Vidal Sassoon training, and was sent to Santa Monica for an advanced haircutting session.

Anderson has been recognized widely for her sun kissed coloring abilities and has been published in many magazines, such as DC Magazine, The Washingtonian, Northern Virginia Magazine, Modern Salon, American Salon, Beauty Changes Lives, Business Wire, Estetica Magazine, Hairbrained and The Colorist Magazine.

As a Washington metropolitan hairstylist, Shelby Anderson has created a name for herself both in her growing product line and her social media following. Clients travel from nearby Washington, D.C. and from all over the country seeking her signature locks and looks. She has a diverse and vast clientele base that includes politicians, influencers, models and media personalities. Regardless of status, Anderson has a way of making sure that every client feels comfortable and is treated equally.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Why “Volume 13.”? The brand story is a simple one.

The name came with ease. First, 13 is Shelby’s lucky number. Another reason? This year (2022) is Shelby’s 13th year as a cosmetologist– it just feels right, ya know? The term “Volume” is representative of a new and exciting chapter or volume in Shelby’s life, going out on her own in business AND the volume glow-up she gives all her clients who sit in her chair.
